Personal Stories
Statistics show we are all affected by mental illness in one way or another - through a friend, a family member or ourselves. No one is immune. Mental illness can have devastating effects on people's lives, but there is hope and there is recovery. Stigma and fear of discrimination prevent many people from seeking treatment. Many people with a diagnosable mental health issue do not seek help because they don't want to be labelled as "mentally ill" or "crazy". The more mental illness remains hidden, the more misunderstanding, prejudice, confusion and fear remain. In speaking up and talking openly about our experiences with mental illness we can help to reduce stigma and raise awareness.
If you would like to speak up about mental illness and share your story please email us at therideformentalhealth@hotmail.com. Although every effort will be made to process and post submissions we regret that due to time and space constraints it may not always be possible.
